NEWS RELEASE: High-Speed Rail Authority Completes Overcrossing at Kansas Avenue in Kings County​

KINGS COUNTY, Calif. – The California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) announced today the completion of the Kansas Avenue overcrossing, the ninth high-speed rail structure to be completed this year. The Kansas Avenue overcrossing in Kings County is now open to traffic.

Designed and constructed by Dragados-Flatiron/Joint-Venture (DFJV), the Kansas Avenue overcrossing is located west of State Route 43 in Kings County in the middle section of active construction for the California high-speed rail project.

Kansas Avenue overcrossing and grade separation by the numbers:

• 207 feet long
• 43 feet wide
• 1,200 cubic yards of concrete
• 334,000 pounds of rebar
• 12 pre-cast concrete girders, all manufactured at the DFJV Pre-Cast Girder Facility in Hanford.

“This has been an exceptional year of progress having completed nine structures across the Central Valley,” said Garth Fernandez, Central Valley Regional Director. “Our goal here in the Valley is to keep the momentum going, complete structures as fast as we can, in order to advance to the next phase of work and deliver clean, electrified high-speed rail to Californians.”

Earlier this week, the Authority announced the completion of the Davis Avenue overcrossing in Fresno County.

This summer, the Authority announced the completion of the Merced Avenue grade separation, McCombs Avenue grade separation and Poso Avenue underpass in Kern County.

Earlier this year, the Authority announced the completion of the Elkhorn Avenue overcrossing in Fresno County and grade separations at Idaho and Dover Avenues in Kings County. The Authority also announced the completion of the Cedar Viaduct, a high-speed rail signature structure in Fresno County, in May.

Since the start of construction, the Authority has created more than 11,000 construction jobs, a majority going to residents from the Central Valley. The Authority has begun work to extend the 119 miles under construction to 171 miles of future electrified high-speed rail from Merced to Bakersfield.

There are more than 25 active construction sites in California’s Central Valley, with the Authority having also environmentally cleared 422 miles of the high-speed rail program from the Bay Area to the Los Angeles Basin.
